Nourish New York Coalition

Fair Funding. Stronger Local Farms.

Connecting small farmers to public resources and bringing more locally grown food to the communities they serve.

Why This Matters

Public food funding should open doors for every New York farmer, not create barriers that keep small farms and community food organizations out.

New York invests millions in purchasing locally grown food for communities experiencing food insecurity. Yet many small farmers struggle to secure consistent buyers, while independent food pantries lack the resources to purchase directly from local producers. We're bringing these groups together to strengthen local food partnerships and ensure more of that investment reaches the communities it was intended to serve.

The Problem

The system favors established buyers, leaving small farmers behind.

Nourish New York was created to support local farmers while providing fresh food to communities experiencing food insecurity. Yet purchasing decisions remain concentrated among a limited number of funded organizations, leaving many small and beginning farmers dependent on buyers they struggle to reach. Without more accessible purchasing opportunities, smaller farms risk being left out of a public investment intended to support New York agriculture.

Establish direct purchasing agreements between state agencies and small farms, cutting out unnecessary middlemen.

Advocate for contract structures that prioritize local, small-scale producers and transparent bidding processes.
